TuffSet Frequently Asked Questions:

Are TuffSet headsets compatible with other amplifiers?

VXI telephone headsets, otherwise known as TuffSet headsets, are designed to work with TuffSet, Bear and Gold Series amplifiers.

Does VXI offer a warranty on their products?

VXI offers customers a two year manufacturer's warranty on all TuffSet products. In this time period, if you notice a manufacturing defect on your headset you may send it in to VXI for repair at no cost. If your headset requires service after two years, you can still send it to VXI for repair, however there will be a minimum charge of $22.50. If you are uncertain about whether or not your headset is still under warranty, you can call our toll free Customer Service line at 800-742-8588. Please contact VXI Customer Service for a Return Authorization Number (RA Number) prior to sending in any products.

Is there a 30 day return policy if the headset equipment isn't compatible with my phone?

Yes. VXI offers a full 30 day money back guarantee on all products if you are not completely satisfied. However, we do make every effort to send you a headset and amplifier that are compatible with your phone system when you place an order.

In what stores can I view your products?

Currently, our products do not appear in retail stores. However, we do have several distributors across the country. A listing of these is available on our Partne's section of our website. Or please call our toll free Customer Service line at 800-742-8588 for a distributor in your area. You can also view the full range of our products on our website as well.

I hooked up my Blazer according to the directions, but I'm having trouble getting it to work.

Sometimes reading through your installation manual one more time can help significantly. If you did not receive an installation manual, you may call our Customer Service department at 800.742.8588 and request one. You may need to adjust the "transmit gain" on the back of the Blazer. To adjust the "transmit gain", use the plastic screwdriver that comes with the Blazer. The gain adjustment area is located on the back of your Blazer amplifier, and is a small hole that is located in the lower right area. Place the flat edged end of the plastic screwdriver deep into the gain adjustment area (the small hole in the lower right corner). If the person you are calling is having a hard time hearing you, gently turn clockwise to turn the transmit level up. If the person you are calling says your voice is too loud, gently turn counter-clockwise, which will turn the transmit level down. If you are still experiencing problems, please call customer service at 800-742-8588. We are available Monday - Friday from 8 AM to 5:30 PM, E.S.T.

I just received my TuffSet CT switch and I can get the unit to work on the computer, but not on the phone.

A common problem with the TuffSet CT switch is that the AC Adapter is not plugged completely into the switch box unit. Please check the AC Adapter plug and make sure that it is flush with the box. Sometimes an extra push will make the plug fit into its proper position. You may also want to confirm that your phone is compatible with the TuffSet CT Switch. You can do this by entering your telephone manufacturer or model type into our Compatibility Guide. (NOTE: The TuffSet CT Switch does not work with cordless telephones). If you have any questions regarding compatibility, or any other problems installing the TuffSet CT Switch, please call our toll free customer service line at 800-742-8588.

Sometimes the transmit gain on the back of the TuffSet CT switch box needs to be adjusted with the plastic screwdriver that comes with the TuffSet CT Switch. The transmit gain adjustment area is located on the back of your TuffSet CT switch box, and is a small hole that is located in the lower right area. Place the flat edged end of the plastic screwdriver deep into the transmit gain adjustment area (the small hole in the lower right corner). If the person you are calling is having a hard time hearing you, gently turn clockwise to turn the transmit level up. If the person you are calling says your voice is too loud, turn counter-clockwise, which will turn the transmit level down.

How do I set the Compatibility Settings on the VXI Everon?

The VXI Everon is easy to set up for compatibility. For most phones, you simply insert two AA batteries and set the switches to A-4. If you have the below listed phone systems, you will not need batteries please set the compatibility settings as follows:

Troubleshooting

In the unlikely event that your telephone system does not work with the above settings, please follow the instructions below to discover the correct setting for your phone.

  1. Put headset on.
  2. Lift handset from cradle to obtain a dial tone.
  3. Adjust receive volume.
  4. Try all settings:
    • A-1, A-2, A-3, A-4
    • B-1, B-2, B-3, B-4.
  5. Listen to dial tone as you go and choose the best sounding setting.

How do I utilize the Direct Plug-in Observer Port Feature on the Everon?

The VXI TuffSet Everon amplifier is designed with a direct plug-in observer port feature. This is great for training situations when a supervisor needs to listen but not be heard by the customer. Simply connect a VXI Observer Headset into the port on the back of the Everon labeled with a "GN". This allows the observer to hear both sides of the conversation. When ordering a VXI Observer Headset (#200547), please remember to order the QD1027 lower cord (#30005).

I am using a Siemens 2420 phone system with a VXI TuffSet Blazer. When my second line rings, the call either becomes distorted or disconnected. What is wrong?

You will need an AC Adapter. The problem is the Blazer amplifier is powered by the phone line (Line 1) and if you get a second call (Line 2) then your amplifier interprets that to be in conflict. An AC adapter will prevent these type of power conflicts.

I am using a Northern Telecom ACD-1 with a 2216 Station. I need to know how to program my VXI TuffSet headset (10-12, 20-12, 10-6 or 20-6).

1. Plug headset in port nearest the front of the phone.

2. Press the program key then touch 10 on the phone's dial pad. This is the transmit program. The handset/headset program will appear by displaying a 123 with a cursor flashing beside one of the numbers. The number 1 program establishes compatibility with the VXI TuffSet Link headset. To move the cursor to position 1, touch 1 on the phone's dial pad then touch program again. The transmit program is now set.

3. To obtain maximum receive volume, touch program again then 00 on the dial pad. The receive program will appear displaying 1234 with a cursor flashing beside on of the numbers. The number 4 program establishes maximum volume for VXI headsets. To move the cursor, touch number 4 on the dial pad, then program again. The receive program is now set. You are now able to adjust your volume up and down by suing your volume rocker bar.

4. For the best performance, the gain on the SL-1 SWITCH should be set at 57.75 Db.

*Note If you prefer personal transmit or volume control, utilize the VXI TuffSet Everon Amplifier.

What is the difference between a TalkPro CT 1 or 2 and a VXI CT Switch(TuffSet)?

The main difference is the type of quick disconnect (or QD) that the systems use. For more information, please select this PDF illustrating the two different switch options and their compatibility.
