If You Can’t Stop the Noise…
You probably know that chronic exposure to noise induces hearing loss. But did you know that truck drivers are among those most at risk? We usually leave the medical stuff to others, but we want to make sure our truck driving friends are aware of this potential pitfall of life on the open road (or short road, we suppose, it depends on your route).
Noise pollution is a growing health hazard and can be found almost everywhere, from car alarms to leaf blowers. It’s especially hard to escape when you’re surrounded by it every day, driving a big rig. Truckers—you’re not alone in this battle against noise. Welders, firefighters, garage mechanics, forklift operators and miners are in the trenches with you.
Have you experienced hearing loss since you started driving?
The medical term for excessive hearing loss is acoustic trauma (AT). AT is a serious condition that occurs when any excessive sound reaches the inner ear. While it causes short-term hearing damage, the good news is it’s usually reversible. But long-term damage can be done when the noise is loud enough and the duration is long enough.
So what do you do about it? The best way to avoid AT is to wear ear protection. And it’s never too late to start using it. Even if you’ve already experienced noise-related hearing loss, wearing ear protection can help prevent further damage.
Can you hear me now?!
Excessive noise not only affects your hearing, it also affects how well you communicate with the rest of the world while you’re on the road. That’s the part that we can help you with. While our BlueParrott Bluetooth headsets can’t prevent you from experiencing hearing loss, they can help the folks on the other end hear you better over road noise, engine noise, etc. We combine a high-performance VXi noise-canceling microphone with our Xtreme Noise Suppression™ technology (that actually senses the noise level around you) to let you hear and be heard, in spite of the extreme background noise.
We welcome your feedback! Until next time, safe and happy travels on the open road.
